Recommended settings
When it goes wrong
WebM won't play somewhere
Cause: Some players and social sites do not support WebM.
Fix: Use MP4 (H.264); it plays in the most places.
Quality dropped
Cause: Small size is selected, or the source was already heavily compressed. The tool always re-encodes, so some quality is always lost.
Fix: Pick High quality.
Questions
Audio-only output?
No. To take only the sound from a video, use the Audio Extractor.
No re-encode just to change container?
Not in this tool: it always re-encodes. To change only the container without losing quality, use FFmpeg with `-c copy` (for example `ffmpeg -i input.mkv -c copy output.mp4`). It fails if the new container cannot hold the video or audio format.
MKV vs MP4?
Use MP4 for sharing: more devices and apps play it. MKV makes it easy to keep subtitles and several audio tracks in one file, but some devices cannot open it in their built-in video app.
